As a child Decible, born James Blanchard, was raised in a household that was filled with music.   Though he was the youngest of six siblings,  many times he felt alone, it was one of the reasons he gravitated towards music.  Music has always played an important part in his life, he has “an ear” for it as the saying goes.

A move to Florida early in his youth exposed him to new styles of music and other genres.  Feeling inspired when he heard certain beats produced by producers such as DJ Premier, Pete Rock, Marley Marl, Diamond D, among others, urged him to move beyond chopping samples on a tape player, weaving them together to form new sounds, and creating mixtapes, to sampling with a Zoom sampler.

Decible, quickly outgrew the sampler and knew he was ready to step up his game and use the same tools as those he looked up too.   His mind was made up and he was ready to purchase the SP1200.  After a month or so Decible was able to pay off the balance and bring it home with him.  From that point forward, his passion for music grew stronger each day.

Shortly thereafter Decible was met with the limitations of the SP1200 and exchanged it for the MPC2000.  Armed with the sampling power of the MPC he purchased a turntable, keyboard and stepped out to develop his own style by combining his natural talents with the vibes of his favorite MC’s and producers.  His style is unique, he pays attention to and can pick out the details that others may look past and layers them in such a way that when you hear one of his tracks or mixes, there is something special about them that “speaks” to you.

After many years, Decible and a group of (4) four others formed a group known as Double Helix.  They later went on to release SoundProof which is said to be “a classic album with a conscious, soulful vibe that resonates with both the deepest hip-hop heads and casual music lovers alike,” says cdbaby.com. “.   This album contains four tracks produced by Decible.

Every time he outgrew a piece of equipment he added another tool to his tool chest and before he knew it, he had a studio complete with everything he needed.  As of 2017, in addition to producing music through Decible Productions, he has expanded his services and is now offering mixing and mastering services through The House of Custom Mades.
